11, 1999 - 11:00am - Unit #65 assisted a motorist with a flat tire
on the ramp from Elm Road onto westbound I-44. Because of the snow
piled onto the shoulder, the car was blocking half of the ramp.
65 stopped behind the motorist with his lights on and changed the
tire of the lady.
January 11, 1999 - 8:45pm - Unit #220
and unit #65 assisted a motorist blocking one lane on the ramp from
Highway 21 onto southbound I-270. Piled snow covered the shoulder
so 220 and 65 remained behind the vehicle with their lights and
directed traffic until the tow truck arrived.
January 11, 1999 - 9:40pm - Unit #73 and
unit #65 answered a call for help on CB channel 9 from a truck driver
that crashed into a snow bank and was stuck on northbound I-270
at I-44. 73 and 65 got to the scene and checked on the driver. He
was ok so they called the Sunset Hills Police. 73 and 65 remained
at the scene until the officer arrived.
January 13, 1999 - 11:10pm - Unit #65
heard a call over the scanner for a stranded motorist on northbound
I-270 at Marshall Road. 65 got to the motorist before the officer
and found the driver was out of gas. 65 gave him a gallon and called
the police to let them know everything was ok and they could cancel
their response.
January 22, 1999 - 8:15pm - Unit #73 and
unit #65 assisted a motorist with a flat tire on eastbound I-44
just west of Highway 109. 73 let the motorist use his hydraulic
jack.
January 24, 1999 - 7:00pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist with a flat tire on westbound I-44 two miles west of
Highway 141. The driver said her brother was on the way to change
the tire. 65 remained behind her with his lights on. When her brother
arrived, 65 let him use his hydraulic jack.
January 24, 1999 - 8:05pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist on westbound Highway 30 at West Watson Rd. The driver
had a bad alternator. He had his hood up and was hooking up a jumper
pack to the battery. 65 followed behind him with his lights while
he slowly drove the car to the next exit.
January 24, 1999 - 8:30pm - Unit #65 pulled
up behind a motorist with the flashers on the shoulder of westbound
I-44 one mile east of Antire Road. 65 asked the driver if she needed
any help. She said she just called the police because her passenger
was feeling suicidal. 65 remaining on the scene until a St. Louis
County Police Officer arrived. He explained the situation to the
officer and the officer called for an ambulance. He thanked 65 for
stopping.
January 28, 1999 - 8:25pm - Unit #65 stopped
on the inside shoulder behind a motorist on southbound Highway 141
just south of Gravois Rd. The driver was walking around the grassy
median looking at the ground. 65 asked him if he needed and help.
He told 65 he lost some money out his car window while he was driving.
65 helped him look for the money and found it a few minutes later.
February 4, 1999 - 7:30pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist with a flat tire on northbound I-55 just north of Lindbergh
Blvd. The bolts on the tire were stripped so 65 called a tow truck.
February 4, 1999 - 8:25pm - Unit #65 stopped
behind a van with no lights and blocking the middle lane of southbound
Highway 141 at Highway 30. The driver was standing in the median.
He told 65 he needed a jump start and his friend was on the way
to do it. 65 put cones and flares out behind him and directed traffic
until his friend arrived and jump started the van.
February 11, 1999 - 7:10pm - Unit #65
assisted a motorist and his friend on the ramp from southbound I-270
onto Doughtry Ferry Rd. 65 followed behind the motorist with his
lights on while his friend pushed the car down the shoulder and
into a hospital's parking lot.
February 19, 1999 - 3:25pm - Unit #65
observed a kid hit a golf ball though a window of a house on San
Martin Ct. 65 followed the kid back to his house and called the
police. The kid was caught and his parents payed for the window.
February 23, 1999 - Unit #65 was traveling
east on I-44 at I-270 when the hood on the car in front of him opened
and hit the windshield. The driver could not see forward at that
point so 65 turned on his lights and cleared traffic out of the
right lanes so he could get to the shoulder. 65 checked on the driver,
he was ok. The driver tied the hood back down and continued on his
way.
February 27, 1999 - 2:15pm - Unit #65
pulled up behind a car with the flashers on sitting on the inside
shoulder of westbound Highway 30 at Mauer Industrial Ct. He was
out of gas so 65 gave him a gallon.
March 15, 1999 - 2:55pm - Unit #65 pulled
up behind an unoccupied car blocking the right lane of Elm Road
under I-44. 65 remained behind the car with his lights on for a
few minutes to see if the driver would return. The driver didn't
so 65 called the Webster Groves Police. An officer arrived several
minutes later and he asked 65 to stay there while he went to check
a nearby gas station to see if the driver was there. The officer
returned with the driver so 65 left.
March 15, 1999 - 9:50pm - Unit #65 assisted
a motorist on the shoulder of westbound I-44 at the Soccer Park
Rd. The driver was looking for a lost hubcap. 65 helped him look.
He found the hubcap about five minutes later.
March 21, 1999 - 8:50pm - Unit #65 assisted
a stranded motorist on southbound Highway 141 just south of Bowles
Ave. The driver was trying to get to her work a mile away so 65
conveyed her there.
March 24, 1999 - 11:10am - Unit #65 was
traveling westbound on Watson Road at Pardee Road when he saw a
stalled car blocking the right lane on eastbound Watson. 65 turned
around and stopped behind the car with his lights on. 65 asked the
elderly gentleman if he needed a tow truck. At that moment, a Crestwood
Police Car drove past. 65 flagged him down. The car was facing uphill,
so the officer used his push bumper to push the car onto the shoulder.
65 left the scene as the officer was calling for a tow truck.
April 12, 1999 - 9:00pm - Unit #53 and
unit #65 assisted a motorist on northbound I-270 at Highway 30.
53 and 65 conveyed the motorist and his friends to their motel on
South Highway Drive.
April 23, 1999 - 2:30pm - Unit #65 stopped
with his lights on in the right lane of Bowles Ave. just south of
Horan Drive to remove a trash can blocking the lane.
April 25, 1999 - 9:30pm - Unit #220, #73,
and #65 assisted a motorist with a flat tire blocking the right
lane on the on ramp from Highway 30 onto northbound I-270. 73 changed
the tire while 220 called the Sunset Hills Police to let them know
they were out with a vehicle blocking a lane. The dispatcher said
if you guys are out with it, there was no need to send an officer.
73 finished changing the tire in the rain and they were on their
way.
April 25, 1999 - 9:50pm - Just as unit
#220, #73, and #65 finished helping the motorist in the above report,
a call went out over the scanner for a vehicle accident on the ramp
from I-270 onto westbound I-44. The Sunset Hills Police Dispatcher
knew 220, 73, and 65 were a mile away and knew they were listening
to their scanners so he told them over the police frequency to respond.
220, 73, and 65 got to the scene first and found a tractor trailer
truck had drove off the interstate in the rain and went down a thirty
foot hill. 73 and 220 started directing traffic and shut down a
lane for the emergency vehicles while 65 ran down the hill to check
on the driver. 65 radioed up to 220 that the driver was ok and 220
relayed that to the Sunset Hills Police. Emergency vehicles began
arriving after a few minutes and 220, 73, and 65 left the scene
to get out of their way.
