August
11 - 12, 2001 - 6:00am to 6:00am - Our team was at the second
annual Mississippi Valley 24 Hour Challenge in New Baden, IL.
It was a 24 hour long bike race for 37 riders along mainly farm
roads and some busier highways. There was a 53 mile day loop
and a 12 mile night loop. Our team provided communications along
the routes, drove the routes looking for riders that needed help,
sat at busy intersections at night to give warning to cars that
bike riders were on the road, and removed loose gravel from a
few intersections where some riders fell. Several of our team
members provided medical help to a few riders that fell off their
bikes due to the loose gravel on the roads. Thankfully, there
were no serious injuries but one rider was taken to the hospital
due to dehydration.
